The Last Day(s)

The Last Day(s)

Twenty-twenty has finally come to an end. And if that meant a new beginning, I’d be celebrating. Alas, the horizon is dark with foreboding signs not of politics as usual, but politics worse than ever. But I have good news…and bad news.

The bad news is man’s heart is “more deceitful than all else and is desperately sick” (Jer.17:9). It hasn’t gotten better in the approximately 2,700 years since Jeremiah’s writing. In fact, it’s been that way a lot longer.

Before the worldwide flood

described in Genesis 6 & 7, God’s take was, “the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually” (Gen. 6:5). Boom. Then it started to rain. You know the rest of the story. Everyone on earth except for 8 people—”but Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord”—were destroyed in the flood.

The fact that man’s heart is predisposed to wickedness makes  him a prime target for the lies of the devil, the destroyer, Satan himself. When God created the earth in six days, he “saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good…and He rested on the seventh day” (Gen. 1:31-2:2).

So it started out “very good.” But the devil hates God and for over 6,000 years has done everything he can to corrupt the creation with lies, deception, innuendo, and his favorite, the forbidden fruit. Look around at the world in 2020. Can you find anything anywhere that is getting morally better, more peaceful, or more hopeful? My guess is, no you can’t.

But I promised good news.

As bad as the world is today, it’s all part of God’s plan to redeem sinful man and place him in a new heaven and new earth where the perfection of original creation reigns forever. Why would God do that? To answer that, you have to know something about Him, the one true God, to understand His motives.

God is love. He doesn’t just love, He IS love. A love we can’t comprehend because of our wicked hearts. Our love is conditional. You love me, I’ll love you. You do for me, I’ll do for you. Not God. “For God so love the world, that He gave his only Son [Jesus] that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) That is a powerful statement about His character. But listen to this one, “While we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly…God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Rom. 5:6,8).

Sin separates us

from a loving Father. We sin and don’t want anything to do with God because He demands we come to Him on His terms, i.e. believe that Jesus Christ paid the penalty for our sin so that we could be restored to a loving relationship with God through Christ.  So, back to the question, why would God do that? Because He loves us and has prepared an amazing home for us with Him. He doesn’t want us to miss out because we’ve bought Satan’s shiny package of lies, distractions and anything he can use to keep us from the only One in the universe who loves us unconditionally. Heaven will be phenomenal. You don’t want to miss it.

This entire site is committed to sounding the alarm that Jesus is coming back. With all the worldwide signs of debauchery and our gathering speed down the slippery slope of “too late,” it could be very soon. In addition to the warning, we also lay out the way to be sure you’re not left behind. Visit our “Steps to Salvation” page for all the details. Hope to see you there.
