God is For Me

In our last post, we suggested several verses to add to our battle plan. Here are a few more:

Ezek. 36:7,9 “Thus says the Lord God…behold, I am for you.”

Ps. 56:9 “This I know that God is for me”

Ps. 118:6 “The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?

When that evil voice whispers

in your ear that you’re on your own, God has forgotten all about you, just whip out one of these “weapons” and the liar’s power disappears. Remember our armor? Our loins are girded with truth, our breastplate is righteousness, our feet are shod with the gospel of peace. We also have a shield of faith and a helmet of salvation. These form an impenetrable defense against the schemes of Satan.

But none of them is an offensive weapon. The only one of those we have is the Sword of the Spirit: the Word of God. Satan can and does pummel us constantly with his lies. Nothing but the Word of God is effective to make him flee. What was the phrase Jesus used to thwart the devil and make him give up trying to tempt Jesus to worship him? “It is written.” And then He quoted Scripture.

If we haven’t spent time reading

and internalizing our “sword,” we’re sitting ducks for whatever Satan wants to throw at us. Reread the Ps. 118 verse above. If that doesn’t build your confidence to take on whatever temptation you’re facing, how about this promise? “No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, that you will be able to endure it.” (1Cor. 10:13)

As long as we have breath, we are in a spiritual battle. It may not seem like it with all the bad things going on in the world, but we have already won the war. Remember who is running the world for a little longer. Our enemy won’t give up until he’s thrown into the abyss for 1,000 years.  If this still hasn’t gotten you excited about your faith, turn another page…
