Solid Rock or Sinking Sand?
With tongue in cheek and no attribution, I offer the following definition of sand: “It’s just tiny little rocks. It is also one phase of the endlessly churning rock cycle that has been shaping the surface of our earth for the last 4.5 billion years.” Compare that to what God did after just six days: He rested, because He had completed His work [of creation] (Gen. 2:2).
Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived, said, “That which has been is that which will be…so there is nothing new under the sun” (Eccl. 1:9). That means that God created rocks and He created sand. If that isn’t true, where did the Mohave and Sahara deserts come from? And what about the sandy bottom of the ocean? No. Time did not cause rocks to become sand. Otherwise, we wouldn’t still have El Capitan and Half Dome in Yosemite; they’d just be piles of sand.
For people looking for truth
and not a way to avoid dealing with a Creator, the best timeline makes the earth less than 10,000 years old, maybe around 6,000 to 7,000 years. The following is quoted from an article by Dr. Terry Mortenson from “Answers in Genesis” published on February 27, 2006:
What Is the Most Compelling Scientific Evidence of a Young Earth?
“It is not “data” that point to an earth and universe billions of years old. It is the interpretation of some of the data (scientific observations) based on anti-biblical, naturalistic (i.e., atheistic) assumptions that lead to such a view. The Bible gives us time-specified genealogies from Adam to Noah and Noah to Abraham and plenty of chronological information to date Abraham quite accurately.”
Obviously, if you don’t believe
in the inerrancy and truth of the Bible, you won’t accept the premise of this post. And whether you believe in a “young earth” or not, your salvation doesn’t depend on that. However, accepting what “science” touts, which is supposed to be based on the two principles of observability and repeatability, and which admittedly calls their position a theory, but can’t prove and has nothing as solid as the word of God to support them, is placing you and your “house” on sinking sand because you are elevating scientific opinion above God’s word. As a proponent of Biblical truth, it is my privilege to point you in the right direction. What you do with it is up to you.
In Jesus’ sermon on the mount, He uses the analogy of building your house on rock or sand (Matt. 7:24-27). And though any contractor will tell you the same thing regarding foundations, this is a metaphor for our lives. He also says our decision displays whether we’re wise or foolish.
The main point of the story
is that Jesus is the rock on which we are to build. If you haven’t committed to that premise by repenting of your sin and turning to the rock that is higher than I (Ps. 61:2), don’t wait. The sands of time continue to march. Tomorrow is uncertain. Jesus offers forgiveness now. Today. Click Here for a section titled Steps To Salvation. It describes God’s love for you and a path for you to become part of the family. Ask God to show you the truth. He will.
