Qualified

In life, there may be many things we’d like to do or be, but we’re not qualified without years of school. And, we don’t have the money, the time or the ability to pursue it. But there is one thing that anybody can qualify for if we meet just one condition.

In Colossians 1:9-12,

Paul is writing to the family of God. At the end of this 4-verse sentence, he says, “joyously giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light.” In Vines Expository Dictionary (©Thomas Nelson, 1984), qualified is the “designation for ALL believers, not merely persons of exceptional holiness.” The footnote for “qualified” in the MacArthur Study Bible says, to make sufficient, to empower, to authorize.

That’s great news for me, and I hope for you,

because I know I’m not a person of exceptional holiness. And now we’re qualified to “share in the inheritance of the saints.” What exactly is that, and how big is my share? The simple answer to “what” is residence in heaven for eternity. Still in Colossians v.13, the broader answer is, we have been “rescued from the domain of darkness and transferred to the kingdom of His beloved Son.” And again in v.22, “we have been reconciled [to God]…and holy and blameless and beyond reproach” to stand before Him.

I believe the answer to the “how big” question is found in Ephesians 3:20, “Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think…” So think as big as you want, God can do bigger. What is the one condition we must meet? We have to be in God’s family. Only one way to get there. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father except through Me.(Jn. 14:6)”. Are you part of the family? If not, check out our Steps To Salvation pages.
