Choose Life

Ever been chosen last for a team? Kinda left you feeling a little unwanted, didn’t it? How about the “in-crowd” in high school? Were they really that cool? Where are they all today? Personally, I only have one friend I’ve kept since Junior High that I stay in touch with. He lives on the other side of the world splitting time between Thailand and England. I think we bonded forever when at 14 we got busted for stealing a car.

That was then.

In 1969, God’s mercy grabbed me and has never let go. I was chosen by the Creator of the universe and given an ambassadorship to share Jesus Christ with the world. By the way, if you’re a child of the King, so were you.

Think about all the options

that go into choosing something. It could be a car, a class, a life mate, a church, literally hundreds of choices we’re faced with every day. What criteria do you think God uses when He chooses who will inherit eternity? There’s only one question He asks us. “What did you do with My Son Jesus?”

Jesus said,

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through Me” (Jn. 14:6). If you’re interested in heaven and how to be sure you’ll get there when you die, take this verse seriously. All other claims are lies intended to keep you from the truth and thereby keep you from the only path that actually goes there. Beware, many who claim to speak for God, don’t. You have to know the truth to be able to discern lies. Jesus also said, “…you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (Jn. 8:32).

The truth Jesus referred to is the Bible,

cover to cover. Read it. Believe it. Memorize it. Live it. Know that the God who wrote it cannot lie (Tit. 1:2). If you do that, you’ll easily spot the enemy’s deception intended to lead you down the wrong path that leads to your destruction. Just like a light switch that’s either on or off, our eternal destination has a “choice” switch (see Deut. 30:11-20). Are you in or out?
