Amos Says

Amos was written, give or take, 800 years B.C. For the first 8 2/3 chapters, it is a big downer. If it were made into a movie, it would clearly be a horror flick. The prophet recounts all of the things God will do to the tribes of Israel because they rejected God Himself and His righteous standards of living.

Two posts ago, we had a similar theme in Hosea.

I guess I’m on a bit of a “warning” kick, knowing in my heart that the sand in our hourglass is running out. I don’t get into the minor prophets that often but the Holy Spirit gives me fodder to write about. Amos doesn’t pull punches. He describes in detail what the Lord will do to the individual tribes. It’s bad.

You should read it for yourselves

to fully grasp the seriousness of God’s message. But one thing really stood out to me because my writing charter is simply to point people to God’s word. And this verse is a sharp wake-up call, (Amos 8:11) “Behold, days are coming, declares the Lord God, when I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord.”

You know that with the Lord one day is like 1,000 years,

and 1,000 years like one day (2 Pet. 3:8). The big questions are, When will this take place? Was it for Israel 2,800 years ago or today? Does it apply to America too?” In our movie analogy, everybody likes a happy ending. Amos obliges. In the last third of chapter nine we see total restoration of Israel. Spoiler alert: this refers to the Millennium when Christ is reigning on earth.

You decide.

On May 14, 1946, Israel became a nation. Does Amos apply: “I will restore the captivity of My people Israel…I will also plant them on their land, and they will not again be rooted out from their land.” God has always had a recognizable strategy for dealing with His family. First, He warns. Then He warns again. And again. Then He does what He said He’d do. It’s time for us to wake up and study the Bible before it’s unavailable. Don’t think it can’t happen here. Israel has made it through 80 years and is still standing. What else on God’s timetable is coming to a theater near you? Are you ready for it? Check out Steps To Salvation on this site.
