Deliver The Mail
Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night…are the beginning words of the unofficial motto of the U.S. Postal Service. They’re supposed to imply the commitment to do all in the postal carrier’s ability to get your letter or package to you. But in today’s world of shortages, ambivalence, excuses, and more, their reputation has suffered.
They say necessity is the mother of invention. I think that’s why such an opportunity for companies like FedEx, UPS, and Amazon (who sometimes has same-day delivery) exists. “Find a need and fill it” is the first rung on the business ladder of success.
Fortunately,
for those of us who are involved in sharing our faith in Jesus Christ (should be everyone who knows Jesus as their savior), we are not held accountable for “success” in spreading the gospel—the good news—of Jesus’ death and resurrection. We are only commanded to “deliver the mail” so to speak. Go. Tell. These are action verbs intended to provide direction to God’s children when they ask the question, “What is God’s will for me?”.
This should be the only encouragement we need to get off the couch and into the battle for souls. In this world, we are judged by our accomplishments. How big is our bank account? How new is our car? Do we wear designer clothes? We are constantly bombarded by media soundbites accusing us of not keeping up with the Joneses, hammering at our dissatisfaction and attempting to guilt us into spending money for their product.
In God’s world,
we are privileged to carry the truth of eternity to a lost and dying population. Many won’t want to hear it. Don’t let that discourage you to the point of quitting. We are not responsible for results, reactions, or rejections. They are rejecting Jesus, not you. Life is a breath. Eternity comes in the blink of an eye when a decision for Jesus is too late. We only have to please the audience of One by our obedience.
Keep the faith. Depend on the Holy Spirit for the right words at the right time. If we don’t speak, the stones will cry out (Luke 19:40). If we deliver the mail, when we get to heaven we can expect to hear “well done.”
