Fringe Benefits of Christianity
What’s the difference between life insurance and life assurance, since both are activated by someone’s death? There’s a key word, inheritance, associated with both. If we’re talking about a person who knows Jesus as their Savior, life insurance is temporary, an inheritance left behind to family; life assurance is permanent and something realized when residency is transferred to heaven.
If a person doesn’t know Jesus, they still leave an inheritance behind but there’s nothing awaiting them in heaven…because they won’t be there.
For those of us who know Jesus personally,
we don’t have to leave a large, or even any, inheritance behind. But the inheritance that awaits us in heaven is beyond the best we could imagine: “Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think…” (Eph. 3:20). “God thunders with His voice wondrously, doing great things which we cannot comprehend” (Job 37:5).
When you interview to work for a company, they will go through a list of benefits including pay, vacation, health care, etc. These sometimes have a waiting period before they become active and they end when you walk out the door.
Christianity also offers benefits
in this world and the next that begin the moment we turn to Christ for salvation. The list includes many promises, some tangible, some emotional, directly from God. Just to name a few, God promises to never leave or forsake us. He promises to go with us through trials. The Holy Spirit provides us with love, joy, peace, patience (see complete list at Gal. 5:22).
Jesus said, “I go to prepare a place for you” and “I will come again and receive you to Myself” (John 14:2,3). Talk about a fringe benefit. The God who created the heavens and earth is making ready your eternal home. Can you imagine a better architect or contractor?
