God Said…So What?
Do you ever feel like, “so what”? God said, “let there be light, and there was.” So what? God said, “it’s gonna rain for 40 days”, and it did. So what? God said, “It is finished”. Do you see a pattern here? God says something—and something happens.
We talk about superpowers different from comic book characters, such as high intelligence, mechanical skills, patience with irritating people, etc. But there is nothing that says superpower like speaking something into existence. Anybody you know who can do that…besides God? So what?
The thing about God
speaking is different than anyone on earth. He cannot lie (Tit. 1:2). So what? In life, we all want to make good decisions. How do we do that when, for example, politicians lie? We examine data, review history, seek counsel, and hope for the best with reasoning tainted by our environment and upbringing. So what?
I’ve just been reading through Revelation and I’m reminded of some of the things God said that are on the horizon. Ask yourself, “If God can’t lie, how can I not consider seriously everything He says?”
Many have an opinion of God,
assuming Him to be much like the ancient gods, angry unless appeased by human sacrifices or other aberrations of common sense. The Only true God is nothing like that. He speaks because He loves us and wants no mistakes in our thinking that would keep us from making the right choice. And what is that choice?
Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). If we don’t assume this statement is true, why would we waste any time reading the Bible? We have become so skeptical in our present society, that we often don’t stop to think that God is not like us and, as a result, come to wrong conclusions.
I’ve been asking “so what”
throughout this post. It’s time to answer that question. I assume you’re reading this far because you want to make the right decision, a decision based on wisdom and truth. The answer to “so what” has eternal significance. If you make the wrong choice, you’ll spend eternity in the last place you want to be, hell. There are only two destinations. Heaven and hell.
You say you don’t believe in hell, and religion is for those who aren’t smart enough, good-looking enough, or rich enough to accept a different way in life. The Bible says there are two ways and two gates, only two. One is wide. One is narrow. One leads to destruction with many entering there and the other leads to life and few find it (Matt. 7:13,14).
Why do you think that is?
Are only a few smart enough or clever enough to follow the clues that lead to the treasure? No. But there are relatively few who are humble enough to believe everything God says and turn from their prideful, sinful ways to accept the free gift Jesus died on the cross to provide to any who come on His terms.
We’ve already seen that God cannot lie. This is the truth your future hangs on. If God didn’t love you in spite of your poor prior choices, He wouldn’t have said any of the things He has. The ball’s in your court. Choose wisely.
Now you know the answer to “so what”. What are you going to do about it? If you want to know more about what God thinks of you, click here and read the section on Steps to Salvation.
Thanks for reading.
