Grace Full
God is. That’s the starting point. Many words could be added to this brief complete sentence to try to describe Him. One that I like is “superlative.” The dictionary defines this as “unsurpassed level or extent; surpassing all others.” In my recent time in Scripture, I have come across several words or phrases that that expand on God’s “surpassing all others.”
In Romans 8:37,
we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. Ephesians, in 1:8, tells us that God lavished the riches of His grace on us. In 2:7, we are the recipients of the surpassing riches of His grace. In 3:8, we’re given the unfathomable riches of Christ’s grace. In case that’s not a full enough picture, 3:20 lets us know that God is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think. I see no half measures in any of these.
As you can see
from this brief display of God’s generosity to His children, there is no excuse for us to think small or that we’ve been shortchanged in any way. Our title today comes from John’s description of our Lord Jesus: “And the word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth” (John 1:14).
One definition of grace is
“God-given help or kindness.” God knows that life in this world exposes us daily to Satan’s hate-filled evil schemes. And He has told us, “…apart from Me, you can do nothing” (John 15:5). On our own, we are easy pickings, low-hanging fruit for the temptations of the devil. That’s why the above verses are so important to bolster our faith in God’s plan for us. He has not left us to fend for ourselves. Spend a few minutes thinking about the highlighted words in paragraph two above. Then spend a few more thanking God for His plan, His provision, His protection that is ours in Christ.
