The Word or The World
The difference between “word” and “world” is one little letter. But the difference between “The Word” and “the world” is infinite. I don’t know the etymology of the word world. But I do know that the enemy of The Word thinks he controls the world. To an extent he does; at least all the people of the world who have rejected The Word and don’t realize the consequences of that…yet.
If you’ve read any of my other posts, you know that my passion is to share The Word with anyone who will listen. Why is that important? To answer that, let me start with a definition of The Word. And you should also know that my only reference and proof text is the Bible. If it isn’t there, it may or may not be truth. But since the Bible was authored by the Holy Spirit, a member of the Holy Trinity, and He cannot lie, my source is rock solid.
In the Bible,
the book written by John who was inspired by the Holy Spirit, tells us, “In the beginning was The Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men…And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us [as Jesus Christ].” (John 1:1,4,14). That’s about as clear a definition as I could find. I know many of you reading this know the Lord Jesus as your Savior. But for the sake of some who may not, allow the simplicity of the message.
Jesus said, “In the world you have tribulation, but take courage, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Why is this crucial? Because the ruler of this world [Satan] (John 14:29) knows he was defeated by Jesus’ death and resurrection. But that doesn’t stop him from spreading lies about everything. Jesus said, “there is no truth in him…he is a liar and the father of lies.” (John 8:44). How does that affect the world?
You’ve seen it and heard it from politicians,
from heads of state in Russia and China, from anyone trying to shift blame or make you believe their rhetoric. Satan is aware that someday soon, Jesus will return to call His church [those of us who believe in His substitutionary death for us] home to heaven [the rapture] to begin eternity in the Paradise He’s created for us to enjoy. At that time, Satan will have seven years [the tribulation] to do his worst before he’s locked up for 1,000 years [the millennium], after which time he will be released to propagate his lies again for a brief time before he’s thrown into the lake of fire which burns forever.
So, back to the question of why it’s important. The Bible tells us that our days were numbered in God’s book before there was one of them (Ps. 139:16). Nobody knows the day scheduled for our departure into the hereafter. Yes Milton, there is life after death. If you’re reading this and you haven’t met the Jesus of the Bible, there’s still time to make your choice (before you die) of where you’ll spend eternity. The Bible says, “It is appointed for man to die once and then the judgment.” (Heb. 9:27).
God’s plan from before He created the earth
was to offer a FREE gift of eternal life to anyone who would accept it on His terms. When you consider the alternative outlined in Revelation [an existence in a fire that is never quenched] it should be a no-brainer to choose God’s plan. That’s where the world has always been an enemy of The Word. Satan’s diabolic schemes include everything that appeals to our flesh and our pride. One of his most effective strategies is to convince men that there’s no rush; that we can enjoy a life of debauchery and then, just before we bite the bullet, make a profession of faith in Jesus. If you think Satan’s your friend, you are truly misled and in a scary place.
Make it a priority
to find a friend who displays his life of faith in Jesus, or a Bible-believing church and let your desire to meet Jesus be known. Someone will guide you through your questions with the truth that will convince you this post has been part of God’s plan to draw you to Himself so you could spend eternity in the loving care of the One who desires you as part of His family.
