My Dad Is…

and the glory of sons is their fathers.” (Prov. 17:6). I remember growing up sometimes included brag sessions of guys’ dads. Some were rich. Some had cool jobs. Some, frankly, were bums. Mine was somewhere in the middle. I never lacked a roof, a meal, or clothes. There was even money for piano lessons…until I decided at about 10 years old, I would rather play baseball, which it turned out I wasn’t very good at. Shoulda stayed with the keyboard.

My dad passed away

about 25 year ago, my mom a few years later. But I’m not an orphan because my Heavenly Father told me, “Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid or tremble at them, for the Lord God is the One who goes with you. He will not fail you or forsake you” (Deut. 31:6). This morning, my mind started wandering and I came across this thought, “Am I proud of my Father? Do I brag about Him to others?” The beat-around-the-bush answer is, “mostly.” And I asked myself, “Why not all the time?” I didn’t like the answer. Too often I’m self-centered not “regarding others as more important than [my] yourselves” (Phil. 2:3).

When I think about

all that my Heavenly Father has done for me—and the list is long—I can’t help but thank and praise Him. So it would seem that if that’s the result of remembering the list, and I want to change “mostly” to “all the time,” I need to train my mind to “dwell on these things**…and the God of peace will be with you” (Phil. 4:8,9).

How’s your relationship

with the Father of lights? (Jas. 1:17) Are you proud of Him? Do you boast of what He has done in your life? If you’ve read any of my other posts, you know that I believe our time is short before God calls us home. How short? I don’t know. It could be today, tomorrow or a hundred years from now. The point is that there are many who don’t have this relationship with our Father, and you may be the only Bible they read. Is your verbal message about Jesus strong and backed up by your lifestyle message? Or do you waver a bit when the going gets a little rough? Reread the verse from Deuteronomy above, He WILL NOT FAIL YOU OR FORSAKE YOU.

If you’re not totally in the game, there’s still time. Get off the bench and tell someone about Jesus…TODAY.

If all this sounds foreign to you and you don’t have a relationship with the God of Creation, the God who sustains the universe with His Word, check out our “Steps to Salvation” page on this site. Thanks for stopping by.
