Trust The Cure

Fake news. Moving goalposts. Wear masks don’t wear masks. How can we believe anything in the media these days when the only constant is change? If masks work, why do we need social distancing? If social distancing works, why do we need masks? Suspicion, distrust, even paranoia are growing with each passing news day. Fear seems to be the driving force behind it all. Ask yourself, what’s driving the fear? Who’s responsible? We’ll get to that in a minute. Vaccinations may or may not work with or without side effects. But first, here’s a thought about man’s mindset in general. Nobody is interested in a “cure,” until they get a “disease.” What a great segue into a discussion about man’s greatest disease: sin.

The Bible says, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Rom. 3:23). If ever there was a need for a cure for sin, it’s in the 21st century. Everywhere we look, there are growing signs of it in rebellion, rioting, violence, destruction to property, self-centeredness and much more. It sounds like Peter and Paul were writing to our generation, “Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts” (2 Pet. 3:3). And Paul, “…in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” (2 Tim. 3:1-4) Did he miss anything?

The disease is sin.

The symptoms are those written above and they have spread worldwide. Fortunately, there is a cure that is 100% certain, available to everyone, has only good side effects, and doesn’t cost a dime. Unfortunately, the (temporary) ruler of this world has blinded the eyes of many through distractions, and outright lies disguised as legitimate goals, e.g. “You can have it all” or “of course you deserve it.” And, by the way, he [the devil] is the one fanning the flames of fear. When people are afraid and have no anchor to mitigate the fear, they are easily controlled. If you doubt that, ask yourself why people wear masks when alone in their car or walking along the beach.

Contrast that with what the ruler of the universe says in His word. Over 100 times the phrases fear not, do not fear, or do not be afraid appear in Scripture. God does not want us afraid…of COVID-19 or anything else. When we’ve got the cure for sin, the biggest fear we could ever face—eternity in hell—no longer has any control over us because our future has been secured by Jesus’ death and resurrection and by being sealed in Christ with the Holy Spirit of promise. That’s a big deal because God’s promises never fail.

If, as Peter and Paul have written,

we are in the last days and you haven’t answered the question of where you’ll spend eternity, may I be blunt? Don’t wait another day to deliberate. The Bible says, “Behold, now is the acceptable time, behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Cor.6:2) There IS an afterlife and there are only TWO destinations: heaven and hell. The Bible says, “…it is appointed for men to die once and after this comes judgment (Heb. 9:27). Everyone will be in one place or the other. Permit one description of each. In heaven:In Your presence is fullness of joy, in Your right hand there are pleasures forever. (Ps. 16:11). In hell: “…outer darkness, in that place will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.” (Matt. 8:12). Doesn’t seem like a hard choice to me. But there are many reasons most won’t choose heaven. I don’t have space to go into them here, but elsewhere on this site you’ll find more information.

Please take this seriously. The disease of sin is eternally deadly 100% of the time for those who don’t turn to Jesus Christ as the only cure. Don’t be misled by religions that teach you can get there (heaven) by good works or being a “good” person. The Bible says that our good deeds are as “filthy garments” (Isa. 64:6). The requirement for entering heaven is perfection (Matt. 5:48). If you’ve ever lied, stolen, lusted, hated, even once, you’ve missed the mark.

If you’re not sure

of your final destination, visit our “Steps to Salvation” page. There you’ll get God’s perspective on you and the prescription for the only cure for sin: Jesus Christ. Jesus said, “I am the [only] way and the [only] truth and the [only] life, no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6).
